A secure website doesn’t allow unauthorised access to your site’s data while it’s being transferred.
For a secure website, you need an SSL certificate. This allows you to use https (rather than http) to connect to your site, which uses an encrypted connection.
Without encryption, when your customer enters data on your site, such as an email address or payment details, the data is sent exactly as it is written across the internet (known as clear-type).
This means anyone intercepting your data will be able to read the information as it was sent.
With encryption, the data is made unreadable (encrypted) before being sent across the internet. It can only be made readable again by an authorised server with the correct encryption key.
All websites hosted by Riverview come with a free SSL certificate to ensure a secure connection that gets the green padlock symbol in your browser.
